COSLA have partnered with the International Organisation for Migration to provide OISC regulated immigration advice for people who are destitute or at risk of destitution.
This specialist immigration caseworker support enables Local Authority staff or third sector caseworkers to refer BN(O) migrants directly to IOM caseworkers, who can advise on and support with Change of Conditions applications.
If a BN(O) migrant is either destitute or at risk of destitution, a Change of Condition will seek to remove the No Recourse to Public Funds condition attached to their BN(O) visa, enabling them to access mainstream benefits, such as council housing. The process involves the referrer working closely with the BN(O) migrant to collect evidence in support of the application alongside support from IOM.
Note: The process is for Local Authority staff or third sector organisation working with BN(O) migrants to refer BN(O) migrants directly to IOM. This is not a public facing service.
If you have any questions about the wider referral process or would like to request a referral form, please email us at hongkongBNO@cosla.gov.uk.
